Painter Paul Kenton’s - box canvases better than an ‘I Love London T-Shirt!’

July 11, 2010 on 3:59 pm | In Box Canvas, Cityscapes, Landscape Art, New Releases, Paul Kenton | 1 Comment

A few months ago Paul Kenton’s released 3 new Limited edition box canvas’s and we at Fineartblog.co.uk where blown away with them…

‘From Westminster Bridge’ by Paul Kenton
(Limited edition box canvas)

Due to the size and amount of hand finishing/ layering that goes into each limited editon, the arrival of these pieces into galleries was slow & these have ‘trickled’ into galleries over the last few months, as collectors count the days until their pre-order arrives.

‘From Westminster Bridge’ - was produced specifically as a follow up to ‘London Red’ which proved incredibly popular & due to high demand, some customers missed out on purchasing. The jpegs on a computer screen can never truly show the beauty and impressiveness of this piece & his wonderful use of (shades of) red in the sky and purple in the foreground. Purple is an unusual colour to be used in a modern cityscape & yet it works beautifully in this night-time piece of the Houses Of Parliament.

All the buildings are outlined with Pauls’ trade mark hand layered formula (in this case black) & to top of the masterpiece we have the classic London Red Bus caught in the moment.

‘City Reflections’ by Paul Kenton
(Limited edition box canvas)

This is Paul’s largest panoramic piece to date and a predominantly black and white, night time vision of the City of London The white buildings are also hand embelsished/outlined (in this case white) with Paul’s formula, which makes them stand out further against the background as though the picture was illuminated. Look closer and Paul’s trademark red cranes are also there!

‘Going Downtown’ by Paul Kenton
(Limited edition box canvas)

Displaying the hustle & bustle and vibrancy of one of the world’s greatest cities, with his use of bright colours, Paul has captured one of his favourite cities & although this is not the first time, there is something very fresh about the style used here. Yellow cabs buzzing around in the foreground with their distinctive banna yellow and a lush light blue used all over the painting gives this picture and almost effervescent feel to it!

let us know your thoughts…

thank you

James

Timmy Mallett - from ‘Im A Celebrity, Get me…’ to the art gallery?!

March 7, 2010 on 1:35 pm | In Famous Artists, Landscape Art, Original Art, Timmy Mallett | No Comments

In our previous blog on Timmy Mallett, we delved a little into his past & how his love for art began many years ago. Today we will start to comment on his actual art work.

After his stint on British TV’s “I’m a celebrity get me out of here” 2008, Timmy made the decision to concentrate more on his art & the process of choosing which of his painting he felt where good enough to produce limited edition prints from.

Many remain surprised to hear that he paints & on viewing his art, are even more surprised at the depth of his artistic talent.

‘A Day At The Seaside’ limited edition by Timmy Mallett

I do feel his painting style juxtaposes his zany personality and wacky dress sense because he often uses sombre colours in his pieces & typically he paints ‘traditional landscape’ subject matter: such as fields, streets and houses. However, I can see that he subtly adds unorthodox colours to his art, brightening up pictures and giving them a somewhat unique ‘Timmy’ style.

‘Tower Bridge’ limited edition by Timmy Mallett

‘Tower Bridge’ is one such piece. He has added purple and blue as well as a little green, which help accentuate the reflections on the river Thames. I love what he has done with the colouring here, making the piece vivid & eye catching despite being quite dark. To see its true greatness you need to be in its presence as a computer screen can not do it justice.

‘Oh To Be In England’ Original painting by Timmy Mallett

Again ‘Oh To Be In England’ is another painting you need to be in front of to truly appreciate & take in. Clearly painted with the use of oil, the cliffs are built up with thick paint and the sea and the sky have there own unique colours & textures. As you gaze more at the picture you notice the castle on the landmass and to the right of it your eye flickers over to the church on its right. A few more minutes starring & the seagull then comes into view, what a subtle use of white paint to create the little fella. As an artwork it is superb & clearly Timmy has a talent that has only just started to come to fruition.

thank you

Vicki

Artist Paul Kenton - New art coming soon!

February 22, 2010 on 11:33 am | In Box Canvas, Breaking News, Cityscapes, Landscape Art, Paul Kenton | No Comments

The team at fine art blog have some exciting news for Paul Kenton fans - he is soon to release 5 new art works!

Paul Kenton is famous for his beautiful cityscapes and his amazing ability to capture movement in different ways. Some call him the ‘screwdriver artist’ because he is known to use one to paint & to achieve the unique finish to his layered on box canvases.

‘Cafe Rouge’ limited edition box canvas by Paul Kenton

In ‘Café Rouge’ it is brilliant how Paul added just a touch of red to an essentially black and white piece, it works really well. Some critics don’t like the range he has done in this style (as opposed to his more colourful work) because it is simply made up of lines and little colour but I think it is clever and ‘works,’ reflecting the busy hustle and bustle feel of a big city.

His previous most recent release ‘City Skies,’ is much more colourful & richer with amazingly warm orange & red tones, showing the true wonder of our amazing capital city. Is it London during the summer at dusk? or maybe dawn? the street is much too quiet to be the evening!

I can’t wait to see what he has done this time, every phase of new releases there is something different to behold. He is constantly changing his style and surprising us the viewer, so I am sure any Kenton fans will agree with me when I say that I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see them!

Watch this space!!

Artist Lawrence Coulson - the UK’s most successful limited edition artist?

January 22, 2010 on 8:00 pm | In English Countryside, Landscape Art, Lawrence Coulson, Washington Green Fine Art | No Comments

We have not yet mentioned the extraordinary artist Lawrence Coulson in our blog, so I am going to tell you a little about him, his background and his art.

Shoreline Fire, limited edition print by Lawrence Coulson

Coulson grew up around art, as his father Gerald Coulson was a successful artist, painting mainly landscape and aviation scenes. However, Lawrence did not feel as adept at painting as his father & so never viewed art as a career choice, painting only as a hobby.

His favourite medium at that time was watercolours but later his father persuaded him to experiment with oils instead. This he did, with much trepidation and soon realised he much preferred the results he achieved with oil paints. Eventually, Lawrence Coulson & other began to realised he did have artistic talent…

Coulson was working as a retail manager during this time and struggled with the exciting prospect of trying to become a successful professional artist or playing it safe and staying in his job. But the demand for his art continued to grow until Coulson had to choose between keeping his job or pursuing art as a full time career. Luckily for us, he decided on the latter and plunged into his new career in 1997, inspired by the comments of both his father and many others, including a restaurant owner who asked Lawrence to try selling artwork on his walls - & shortly after that Lawrence got his first customer!

Coulson paints landscapes, and he himself states this is because he loves the British countryside & all the different atmospheres he discovers at different times, in different weathers and in different places, which in essence is what he tries to capture in his paintings.

In 2003 Lawrence Coulson won the Fine Art Trade Guilds award for “Best Selling Published Artist” which is a great accomplishment for a self-taught artist. Coulson has also experienced much commercial success and a large fan base & is one of the most recognisable artwork in any high street gallery. It is amazing to think that he was reluctant to leave his other job & become an artist in case he was not successful (he and his wife had a baby at that time) given the phenomenal popularity he has enjoyed.

Today he is one of the most long standing & recognisable Artists working with Washington Green Fine Art publishers & the demand for his work has never been higher
