To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the ‘The Railway Children’ film adaptation, Timmy Mallett has painted & released three brand new limited editions prints in Timmy’s classic painting style:

Timmy stands proudly with his paintings

As well as having Timmy’s signature style there is also something special about these pieces. As normal each limited editions is signed by Mallett ….AND AMAZINGLY each is also signed by 3 stars from the film - Bernard Cribbins, Jenny Agutter and Sally Thomsett! So these pieces are an absolute must have for anyone who loves one of Britain’s all time favourite children’s films!

This is a real opportunity to invest in something that you loved during your childhood or to be part of this celebration. Perhaps you are new to this film or Edith Nesbitt’s original book?

‘Send Our Love To Father’ by Timmy Mallet

The editions of these pictures are very low - only 50 Canvas and 100 paper limited editions have been produced & this is going to heighten demand and increase dramatically the collectability of this range.

Louise Dear’s first collection of 5 artworks, published by Washington Green Fine Art Publishers, has caused quite a reaction, turning heads in many a gallery window & indeed in the home of buyers. Her beautiful multicoloured, hand layered art work has shone a ray of light onto the UK art scene.

‘Yum Yum’ by Louise Dear
(Limited edition box canvas)

Louise’s inspiration comes from her extensive travels throughout the world during her youth, from Europe to Asia and beyond. Her beautiful pictures draw the eye with wonderful colours, bold outlined figures & large floral designs, as well as the sultry poses of her subjects, which are either self-portraits or pictures of her daughter, Lama.

‘Crush II’ by Louise Dear
(Limited edition box canvas)

I love the varying array of colours that she uses, they are vibrant and a lot different from those usually seen in high street galleries; at the same time they are not gaudy or over the top. How would one describe the work?: Figurative, urban, contemporary? I guess that is up to the viewer but there is something that grips the viewer, a style and a vision that is communicated through these evocative images.

Louise says that many women respond to her artwork and the message within them – that women enjoy their sexuality and are in control & she tells us that men also buy her artwork, as it reminds them of their partner. The artist tells us: ‘My pictures are about women feeling lush and gorgeous and free and I think a lot of women who buy my paintings can relate to that.’

‘Lovely’ by Louise Dear
(Limited edition on paper)

By not adding too much detail to her subjects, Louise makes her figures stand out & their poses all the more seductive and alluring. The artist believes that less is more & her figures and faces are only really outlined with the use of black & then these are cleverly sited onto the backgrounds. Louise then accentuates the figures with large and eyes & lips or masses of flowing hair.

‘Coo…ee!’ by Louise Dear
(Limited edition on paper)

Louise is one of Fine Art Blog’s hot picks for success in 2010, keep doing what you’re doing Louise, because it’s absolutely gorgeous.

The other piece not featured that is also in the collection is ‘Crush I’

thanks

This blog will features Keith’s debut collection from earlier in the year.

Keith Proctor is a newly published artist for 2010, whose sketches and paintings currently feature his own son, ‘Jack.’ His artwork will obviously be endearing to those who have children and it will bring back fond memories for those that have grown up sons and daughters as well.

‘Jumpin’ Jack’ limited edition print by Keith Proctor

Keith is also friend of fellow artist Alexander Millar; as well as sharing artistic similarities, they also now share the same publisher, Washington Green Fine Art, thanks to Millar for introducing Keith to them and for singing his praises. Incidentally Keith also lives in the same area of the country, Northumberland, as Millar.

‘Bzzz’ limited edition print by Keith Proctor

Keith Proctor’s first published collection is called the ‘Jack The Lad’ - Tour and is still available to buy but you will need to hurry, as there are only few copies remaining from this magnificent collection of 7 limited editions. He has proved to be extremely popular with art lovers & most of his available originals have now sold to his new fan base. Keith appearance on the published art scene has caused a bit of whirlwind of excitement from buyers across the country and galleries have reported great sales since he was published In February.

‘I Have A Dream’ limited edition on board by Keith Proctor

Keith told us that despite attempts over many years, the ‘Biscuit Factory’ in Newcastle did not show his art. The Biscuit Factory is the UK’s largest commercial gallery space & where numerous artists are able to showcase their work. This is the same area that Washington Green Fine Art first found Sarah Jane Szikora, another of the UK’s most popular artists. Ill bet the Biscuit Factory wished they had shown his art now huh?!

I love the cheeky poses and actions in these pieces by Proctor and the fact that is his own child, ‘Jack’ in many of the pictures, puts extra emotion into the art for me. Art lovers can look at this art and see their own children, little brothers or nephews.

Although they are clearly prints taken from ‘oil paintings’ that have a traditional painting style about them, there is also a vibrancy, a freshness and lightness to the art somehow. Perhaps it is the subject mater that causes this and draws the viewer. The youthfulness and energy of children is a constant source of wonder for many people.

Argentinian artist Fabian Perez is known for his paintings of shady-looking, mysterious gentlemen & evocative images of women. According to the artist his inspiration is due to his father, who owned brothels and was constantly being hassled by the Argentinian authorities.

‘Tinto II’ limited edition canvas by Fabian Perez

Despite this somewhat rough background, his images are romantic, the subjects are beautiful & Perez paints them with equal parts of awe and respect. The casual observer would never equate the ladies with those that work in brothels, nor the men with those that frequent them – as of course the quality of the art speaks much louder than any ‘story’ behind them.

‘Tess III’ limited edition canvas Fabian Perez

His style reminds me somewhat of the work of UK artist Hamish Blakely, especially his newer work, in that both enjoy showing subjects with dark backgrounds on the canvas, presumably to reflect nighttime or a low lit venue; both also paint beautiful Hispanic women almost always posed facing to the side or away from the artist, as well as men wearing trilby hats low on their faces, so that the face is covered in shadow. I admire both of their works in their own right.

‘The Last To Leave’ limited edition on board by Hamish Blakely

I also find the sculpture recreations of Fabian Perez’s work very stylish. The ‘Man in Black Suit’ - Sculpture is my favourite, the detail in the piece is incredible: the folds in the clothing make it realistic and the pose struck by the character makes me think of Michael Jackson in his ‘Smooth Criminal’ video – in fact Michael is dressed in a suit with a trilby hat on, not a far cry from the characters we are discussing!

Michael Jackson from his Smooth Criminal video

Something you may not know about Fabian Perez is that he is a keen martial Artist. Perez says he gained many things through the discipline of Martial Arts & he uses it in his art, by clearing his mind through meditation before painting. For Perez, Martial Arts are not his hobby, they are a significant part of his life.

A number of weeks we wrote a blog about newly published artist George Somerville and compared his work to that of Alexander Millar’s, today the blog will focus on Alexander.

Young at Heart by Alexander Millar

A professional artist for some 21 years, Alexander Millar was born and raised in a small mining village in 1960 near Glasgow called Springside & in his own words it felt more like growing up in the 1940s than the 1960s! He spent a lot of his youth around the older generation of Scots: men dressed in dark suits, smoking pipes, and burly women in aprons and headscarves.

His dad worked for British Rail & as a child accompanying him to work, Alexander gained more inspiration for his future paintings as he found the old Railway stations to be very Romantic. Of course the architecture of these stations would have been nostalgic & a throw back to Scotland’s industrial past - this influence is seen throughout Alex’s paintings.

My Family & Other Animals by Alexander Millar

Moving to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne after finishing school aged 16, he tried several jobs before becoming a professional artist in 1988. He claims that it was quite a culture shock to move from the sleepy village he grew up in, to the hustle and bustle of the city, as you can imagine! But the city also had its own share of ‘Gadgies’ - (a northern Scottish term for an older generation man) to inspire his paintings.

Fuelled by his extensive Childhood memories, he had a huge source of inspiration to work from, what is more astonishing is that Alexander is a self taught artist, which is an amazing achievement for any commercial artist.

We thought we would start with some general background on Sherree as this is our first of many posts about this most celebrated of English artists.

A Day At The Fair by Sherree Valentine Daines (New for Winter 09)

This remarkable lady celebrated her 30th anniversary as an artist in 2007 by publishing her first art book ‘First Impressions.’ Having had a remarkable career so far, producing nearly 150 different limited edition prints and canvas titles, she certainly shows no sign of slowing down her pace as a published artist!

Sherree has been televised on numerous occasions, including ‘This Morning’ on ITV with Fern Britton and has won many awards; remarkably she found time to teach ‘life art’ classes for twenty years, run a gallery & be a housewife and mother to her husband and four children!

Ascot Splendour by Sherree Valentine Daines (New for Winter 09)

She is well known for her figurative and impressionistic art work by the art community & has exhibited at prestigious galleries such as Tate gallery, The Barbican, The New English Art Club and The Lords Museum. Recently an art critic described her as “The face of modern British Impressionism” and shortly after Sherree was voted the UK’s leading impressionist artist. Other awards she has received include The Laing Landscape and Seascape Competition and The Young Artist of the year award from the Royal Portrait Society.

End Of A Perfect Day by Sherree Valentine Daines (previous release)

Renoir and Monet influence can be seen in her work, her focus on light and shadow especially. Her interest in Impressionism and Figuratism maybe attributed to her love of ‘people watching’ & then capturing their emotions and behaviour onto canvas. Sherree also experimented with many mediums while studying her art degree but decided that oil was her favourite because of the richness and texture the paint gave her work.

“The Singing Butler” by Jack Vettriano

As a child, Vettriano worked hard doing jobs such as cleaning windows and was even kept from school by his dad in order to pick potatoes at one point. Now however, he is one of the more affluent and wealthy artists, having sold many thousands of copies of his art work across the globe. Nowadays, he is reported to make around half a million per year from his print licensing alone, and the famous piece “The singing Butler” fetched £750,000 at an auction at Southeby’s.

“The Temptress” by Jack Vettriano

His pieces have inspired people from around the globe, although critics have always had a few negative words for him. For example, he was accused of plagiarism when he released “The Singing Butler” as the critics claimed that the figures were found to be taken from a book.

New for late 2007-2008, some incredible limited edition artwork by the surrealist legend that was Salvador Dali, have been released via the UK market to buyers around the world.

(Homage To Fashion by Salvador Dali)

6 of his original paintings have been reproduced into Limited Edition print format and some of his most famous artwork creations have been transformed into 9 incredible and highly detailed Limited Edition sculptures.

I think this collection of prints and sculpture are some of the best pieces that have come onto the art market for a long time.

(Homage to Terpsichore - Sculpture by Salvador Dali)

The sculptures are something very unique and special and it means that these interpretations of Dali’s work are available, in this unique format, for the very first time. I have personally seen some of these sculptures and I was blown away by the detail in them, simply superb.

The limited edition prints are fabulous and certainly they have picked some of the strongest Dali images I have ever seen. The piece entitled ‘Lady Godiva’ is one of my favourites. The pieces have been produced via a mixed media format with huge amount of work going into each piece, I will go into some more detail in another blog post.

(Surrealist Piano - Sculpture by Salvador Dali)

The limited edition prints come with a unique stamp by the Dali Foundation, making these highly collectable.

The collection contains 6 Limited Edition prints and 11 sculptures, and I feel it is the sculptures that are the Tour De Force of the collection, mainly because I have never seen anything quite like this released onto the art market.

(Dance Of Time I - Sculpture by Salvador Dali)

The 6 limited edition prints are entitled:

Alice In Wonderland
Dance Of Time
Homage To Fashion
Lady Godiva
Space Triumph
Surrealist Piano

(Lady Godiva by Salvador Dali)

The 11 limited edition sculptures are entitled:

Dance Of Time I, II, III and IV – Sculptures
Homage to Terpsichore – Sculpture
Nobility Of Time – Sculpture
Space Elephant – Sculpture
Space Venus – Sculpture
Surrealist Piano – Sculpture
Triumph Elephant – Sculpture

(Nobility Of Time - Sculpture by Salvador Dali)

Scottish artist Jack Vettriano has recently released two new limited edition prints, released to galleries by his new publisher, Demontfort Fine Art of the UK.

Jack Vettriano is possibly Scotland’s most famous living artist. His paintings have a ’film noir’ context to them and often display nude or romantic themes. Vettriano’s work has been published in print (unlimited) format for many years, certainly within the UK and whether a person has knowledge of the artist or not, his work is instantly recognizable to most.

The first of his new Limited Edition prints is ‘The Tourist Trap’:

I find his work to be thought evoking and provocative and he is the master of this style of painting. I am pleased that more limited editions are being produced, as many people have expressed an interest in his ‘collectable’ (limited edition) artwork but obviously not everyone has half a million £ sterling to spend!: On 21 April 2004 the original canvas of ‘The Singing Butler’ sold at auction for £744,500.

The second new Limited Edition print is ‘The Defenders Of Virtue’:

In related news, Sotheby’s auction house are auctioning one of Vettriano’s paintings: ‘Bluebird At Bonneville’ on 29th August 2007 with an estimate of £400,000 to £600,000 GBP Sterling.

Here is a link to the auction on Sotheby’s website

Popular Australian born artist Rolf Harris has released a new Limited Edition print for July 2007, his first this year, to the UK and Worldwide art market. ‘Blue Elvis’ is a fitting tribute to the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley and was painted to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Elvis’s passing in 1977. Rolf talks about what made him paint Elvis:

‘My Wife and I have a very dear friend who has been a huge Elvis Presley fan since he was a child. He seems to know every song that Elvis ever sang, let along recorded. In conversation with him a couple of years ago, I found out, to my amazement, that it would soon be thirty years since Elvis passed away and I thought that this remarkable man, on stage, in his trademark white jumpsuit, would make a wonderful painting.

Well, to cut a long story short, I did the painting as a celebration of his life and I’m really proud of if it. I hope you fell that it captures the king as he is best remembered.’

Personally I think ‘Blue Elvis’ reveals Rolf Harris’s versatility as a painter and this is an outstanding figurative piece of work in its own right; the fact that it is a tribute to such a beloved icon makes it even more satisfying to me.

thank you
