  • Artist Caroline Shotton – Are these cows upset? ‘blue’ even?

This is the latest Caroline Shotton release ‘Blue Moon’ box canvas.

Around the whole outline of the moon itself are hand placed, jewels which is a lovely finishing touch to this wonderfully vibrant piece.

Before this piece came out my favourite colour for a Shotton background was red but now, with the very deep blue, I think this is now the clear winner.

There is some hidden depth to this painting, the detail in the top half of the sky and the craters in the moon. It is a tribute to Caroline that she makes these paintings look so ridiculously simple but in fact there is a strong artistic intelligence behind them.

Blue moon but very happy cows!

    thanks

    Emily

  • Artist Caroline Shotton’s pictures lie, cows do not!

We wanted to make the point that sometimes the images that are press released (in advance of the item arriving in the gallery) don’t do the pictures justice and the finished artwork is often much much nicer in person!

(Press release image ‘Two & A Calf’)

This was particularly the case when Caroline Shotton released the 4 limited edition box canvas’s
    ‘Moo Too,’
    ‘Two And A Calf,’
    ‘2 Pint 4’
    ‘Meet The Famooly’
    in Autumn last year.

Above is the press release image for ‘Two & Calf’ by Caroline Shotton. The image looks really quite flat, mostly variation of red and with no embellishments.

Now let’s looks at some camera images we took of the actual painting:

(picture we took of ‘Two & A Calf’)

Take a closer look at the actual ‘jewels’ on the box canvas, on this picture they are yellow and on the other titles in the series they where various colours, I remember one was this amazing shade of purple!

(notice the stuck on yellow jewels, and stuck on fabric hearts)

(notice the finish on the white, starting from above the cow’s noses)

Even the faces of the cows are actually embellished and are raised with actual paint work, this is not a flat off the printer finish but a much more special, lively image that looks like it’s actually come directly out of Caroline’s studio

    thank you

    James

  • Paul Kenton News – Amazing new limited editions for Spring 2009

Probably one of the most highly sought after, up and coming limited edition artists, Paul Kenton, has released more brilliant limited edition box canvas for spring 2009.

(limited edition box canvas: ‘Northbank Skyline’)

Again changing his style slightly, bringing in new colours and showing a highly developed artistic flair in his portrayal of some of the world’s most famous cities.

These releases feature: one of Amsterdam and her canals, one of The Eiffel Tower and three beautiful pictures of London.

(limited edition box canvas: ‘City Of Romance’)

His style remains unique in the art world, both his originals and the limited edition prints use a secret formula! where the hand embellished second layer is put onto the canvas/print and built up to create these black lines, that have a fabulous visual effect when you stand back and admire the pictures from a distance.

(limited edition box canvas: ‘Waters Of Westminster’)

There is an excitement and vibrancy to his work that I think is really catching on with the general public and ensures each of his pieces sells out from the publisher within weeks of being on sale!

(limited edition box canvas: ‘Lifeblood of The City’)

Which is your favourite? For me it is very hard to decide, as I love his work and also live in London, which maybe makes me bias! ‘Lifeblood Of The City’ I find stunning.

(limited edition box canvas: ‘Avenues Of Amsterdam’)

    Thank you

  • Danielle O’Connor Akiyama – Canadian floral artist, simply amazing

A truly unique floral artist Danielle O’Connor Akiyama, was first published by Demontfort Fine Art publishers in 2007 and has since gone from strength to strength and her portfolio currently stands at 8 published pieces. Her new release is called ‘Heart’s Desire.’

(Heart’s Desire by Danielle O’Connor Akiyama)

What I like about the Canadian’s work is the vibrant and bold colours that believe it or not is unique to the limited edition, Floral, art marker. I don’t think I have ever seen such striking colours on floral art before and Danielle’s work stands out from the crowd

(Moonlight Lovesong by Danielle O’Connor Akiyama)

All her work so far has been produced on ‘Box Canvas,’ which of course is another reason for its contemporary feel and the popularity of this format of art form has not declined, despite some thinking it had peaked in 2006. (see my post on the art trade’s opinion on Box Canvas’s www.fineartblog.co.uk/?p=22 )

Look at Danielle’ s ‘Hope Begins Anew’ series (I, II, III) I feel this highlights the uniqueness of her work, the bold colours set against a cold white background, wow!

(Hope Begins Anew II by Danielle O’Connor Akiyama)

My message to the artist, please keep doing what you are doing, it works!

    Thank you
