UK Artist Govinder Nazran sadly passes away – December 2008

It is with great sadness that we report that the UK Artist Govinder Nazran passed away over the Christmas period, I believe on Christmas Day.

I thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

It is very sad that an artist whose work brought so much joy to so many, died at such a young age.

I found some lovely words by the artist, where he talks about what inspires his paintings, I read them and it comforted me somewhat to know how caring a person he was: (click here:) Govinder Nazran Biography

I also included pictures of his 2 winter 2008 releases so you can see some of the colourfulness of his work:

Thank you

one day I was walking through Beatties in Telford and a sculpture caught my eye – it was in the gallery and I strolled over and it was called Bullseye by Govinder – I fell in love and bought Bullseye and Bandit and Govinder ‘introduced’ me to art! He is still my favourite artist and I never dreamed I could own one of his original paintings but was so lucky to find Sebastian Sausage and my partner bought him for me for Christmas. I am devastated at the news of Govinders death and my heart goes out to his poor family. He made so many so happy with his work I know he will be colouring up his new world and making that a better place too! He will be so missed. Rest in peace Govinder x

I had the pleasure of meeting Govinder on my birthday back in 2002, he signed a bithday card to me, that I still display every year! I met a quiet and reserved gentle man. I adore his cat sculptures and prints.
I was devastated to hear he had died on 30th Dec after an accident on xmas day. What a tragic loss to the art world. Thoughts prayers go out to his family. X M

Just heard today – such very sad news. Govinder also “introduced” me to art when I saw and fell in love with “The Shining Sinners”. Our small collection of his work brightens our home.
A huge loss of talent to his fans but far greater a loss to his wife and family – our thoughts are with them.

My heart goes out to you and your daughter Sarah. I am a gallery director in the United States and loved representing your husband’s work. Out of all the artists we represent, his work evoked the most emotion from the viewers. May God be with you and peace restore your hope and faith for a better tomorrow.

I’ve only just read of the death of Govinder. I deiscovered him after the death of my own daughter 5 years ago and his work cheered me up. I was lucky enough to meet him at the Castle Galleries in Bristol where he wrote me a dedication on the back of one his pictures (The Child Within Us) for my late daughter. I was not a ‘painting’person until i discovered Govinder. To say his art brought me joy in times of sorrow is an understatement. My heart now goes out to his family. I just wish I could return the favour and bring you some light in what is a difficult time. Thank you Govinder. I will look for a cat, dog or elephant amongst the stars on the next star lit night!

Having just been invited to a retrospective exhibition of his work, I have only just come across the news and am deeply saddened to hear that Govinder had passed away. I was never fortunate enough to meet him; though I too am lucky enough to own one of his works. Having never had the pleasure of meeting him, it seems to me that Govinder’s art reveals a man of great humour, vitality and personality and that will forever live on through his wonderful work.

To Sarah and Eden (beautiful, beautiful name) – I wish you all the love in the world to get you both through such dark times and may this give you the strength to know that the sun will shine again.

    Nic xx

Returning home from a long trip, I found this envelope from Castle Galleries and the cover letter… a retrospective… I am stunned… My wife and I discovered Govinder’s work in a trip to Hawaii in 2005, I wanted to take the painting we saw but couldn’t because of the sheer size. We went home to find out he was a neighbor (we had moved to the Midlands 2 years earlier). We eventually bought that work and it is one of my favorite pieces… it means a lot to me. My heart goes out to Sarah and Eden… I am so sorry for the artist, but to his family most of all. If anything may help, please know that his art is continuously embellishing our home and illuminating our days. Thank you for inspiring him.

My apologies for this delay, but as you would have known, Gov, I was always a bit slow!
It was with immense shock and sadness that I learnt of my school chum Govinder’s departure.
It was, if memory serves correctly, one cold winter day back in 1974 when the teacher at Tyersal Middle School told me to go and sit next to Govinder. Thenceforth, we were the best of friends for many, many years, which were filled fun and silliness impossible to forget! I shall cherish these memories. Thank you for being a part of my life, Gov, and my thoughts also to your lovely wife Sarah and daughter Eden (beautiful name!) and all your family.
